Sovereign Harbour counts its 2010 blessings

The end of the year 2010 is upon us and on reflection, so many things have happened in this small  and up coming community - I thought, the world should know, by leaving a footprint for the next generations to look back on the year 2010 in Sovereign Harbour.

The year 2010 was very exciting for those already living for sometime in Sovereign Harbour.

Some may have left us to settle somewhere else but many others took there place and I hope during the coming years, those who joined us, will make many friends and take active part in the life of Sovereign Harbour Community.

To start with, the Harbour Women Institute have celebrated there third anniversary with membership now soring to 95 members - the biggest membership the local WI have ever seen for years - its membership is now closed to new members because where they meet, at the Harbour Yacht Club, accommodation is limited for safety reason. However, a waiting list was opened during the year and every one from the Harbour can attend and put there name down. - Well Done to the Harbour WI

The second exciting news is that we have now a fully chartered Rotary Club in Sovereign Harbour.

In June this year, Sovereign Harbour Rotary Club have received its Charter after reaching it 20th members in less than 12 months from the Club applying.

At present, Sovereign Harbour Rotary Club who meet every Tuesday at 7pm at Simply Italian Restaurant in Sovereign Harbour,  have over 25 members and growing in popularity - well done !!!

Sovereign Harbour Social Club have celebrated its 2nd birthday.

Members meet every Wed. at 10am at for Coffee at Seamoor Wine Bar with average weekly attendance of around 40 - everyone is welcome.

The latest addition to the Harbour in 2010 is the setting up of a new association called " The Harbour Community Association" in order to take on various social activities in the harbour in enticipation of running future Community Centre in Sovereign Harbour.

I wish them well.

Other Community Activities in the harbour are too numerous to dwell upon but for what this Community in Sovereign Harbour is doing, it is sheer miracle without even a Community Centre - thanks to Sovereign Harbour Residents Association - SHRA whose Committee Members should be congratulated on the wounderful work they have done by giving there support and encouragement to New Activities in the Harbour - Thank you so much on behalf of all of us and Happy New Year.

Sovereign Harbour name association with "The Crumbles"

It is hard to believe that established place names associated with an area is stuck forever like mud.

The story of the area called the Crumbles to the east of Eastbourne next to Pevensey on the coastal road is well documented.

The Crumbles as we now know as Sovereign Harbour has been the dumping ground of all the rubbish of Eastbourne for generation.

The rise of a New Community in the Cumbles named " Sovereign Harbour " took a new meaning to this area.

However, the name The Crumbles is still used by ASDA Superstore for its location in Eastbourne.

Also BT is slow to change its area name from the Crumbles to Sovereign Harbour.

Recently, the fire at Sovereign Harbour BOOTS Midnight was refered by the media as, the location in The Crumbles Shopping.

Even Ambulances and the local policing refer to the location of Sovereign Harbour in the Crumbles.

Time have to move on.

Yes, the name of the area which was the crumbles is now called Sovereign Harbour.

Those who sit far away from Sovereign Harbour have never visited us and have no idea where is Sovereign Harbour or for that matter The Crumbles.

It is time to educate those who are educated that the Crumbles Area which is part of Eastbourne is now called Sovereign Harbour.

Lets hope that the name of the Crumbles will change forever to Sovereign Harbour.

Merry X'MAS 2010 and Welcome to the New Year 2011.

Sovereign Harbour come to maturity

Sovereign Harbour, as a community of nearly 10,000 people, housed in almost 3,750 dwellings - Do we need to establish a Parish Council ??

lets point to the fact that we are nearly 3.5 miles to the east of Eastbourne, next to Pevensey.

Eastbourne seafront promenade was never completed by Eastbourne Borough Council to connect Eastbourne with Sovereign Harbour.

Sovereign Harbour North Community of nearly 6,500 residents  and the South Community of nearly 3,500 residents - there roads do not link.

To travel by car from side to the other, you must take a detour nearly 2.5 miles.

Sovereign Harbour is cut off from the outside world and only link through escape routes like Atlantic Drive and Pacific Drive.

Eastbourne Borough Council have agreed with the early planners to deny Sovereign Harbour, as an emerging New Community, to all the basic facilities, other similar communities take it for granted, such as a Community Library, a Big enough Community Centre, a proper Health Centre, not even a church to give pray to God.

Sovereign Harbour have no links and do not connect directly to Eastbourne.

Our local Elected Borough Councillors in Sovereign Ward which comprise, Kingsmere Estate with approx. 1000 residents, Langney Point with approx. 3,500 residents and Sovereign Harbour with nearly 10,000 residents, have no interest to see there ward shrink from nearly 14,500 residents to almost 4,500 residents.

It is a fact, local government election is coming next year 2011 - while we were promised by those we, the majority residents in Sovereign Harbour, to represent us and do all they can to help our community - what we got is this.... each elected Sovereign Ward Representative got a Job in local government.

I was told in plain English, that they, the elected ward Councillors of Sovereign Ward, have to serve the whole people of Eastbourne.

In other word, Sovereign Harbour is only here to accomodate people for a Job.

NOT FAIR !!

For that reason, Sovereign Harbour need a localy elected Parish Council to look after the interest of Sovereign Harbour residents.

Nearly four years gone by since the last election - what our elected Eastbourne Councillors done for the residents of Sovereign Harbour??

I did expect much more than allocating  sweetner money toward local projects here and there but that do not stand the fact - we, the residents of Sovereign Harbour, saw nothing of significant change to improve the life in the Harbour.

Lets hope that, who ever will be elected next year to be our Ward Councillors on Eastbourne Borough Council for the following 5 years, will do a better job than those we elected last time.

In final - I do support, whole hearted, the idea for Sovereign Harbour to have a localy elected Parish Council.

Sovereign Harbour - No Fast Foods

Sovereign Harbour have its own Shopping Retail Park with its multi-screen cinema, a Fitness Centre, Matalan, Boots 24 and so many other well known names of High Street Giant Retails.

Those occupy an area where the land belong to the Prudential.

on the other side of the Retail Park, we have ASDA Superstore open 24 hours a day.

We have only one Italian Food Restaurant in the Retail Park - Frankie & Benny.

However, The prudential have a lot of land not developed yet which can make an ideal location for a vast Fast Food Complex.

Where is MacDonald, where is KFC, where is Pizza Hut, where is Weatherspoon, where are all those famous Fast Food Outlet.

Yes, Sovereign Harbour have its Waterfront with restaurants offering Italian, Thai, Indian, Fish & Chips, Mediterranean Cuisine, not to forget the Harbour Harvester plus  the recently opened Mexican/Burger Joint.

It is sad that The Prudential did not make the effort to attract the interest of the Multi-National Fast Food Chains; nor Carillion plc who own the land in Sovereign Harbour have made any effort to attract interest to develop a High Class Hotel with a Conference Centre, a plot of land was earmarked for this development.

Lets hope The High Offices of the Chief Executives the like of MacDonald, KFC, Pizza Hut, Weatherspoon and others get this message and start looking at Sovereign Harbour - seriously.

Nearly a Million Shoppers visit both ASDA and use Sovereign Harbour Retail Park.

Sovereign Harbour have nearly 10,000 residents.

Sovereign Harbour have the largest Multiple Marinas in Europe which attract many visitors, in fact it is bigger that Brighton Marina.

Sovereign Harbour have its own Fishing Fleet.

Eastbourne RNLI main station is located in Sovereign Harbour.

Sovereign Harbour have a very busy Dry Dock.

All what needed in Sovereign Harbour is to bring-in The Giants in Fast Foods.

Lets hope someone will listen and ring the Bells.

Sovereign Harbour Activities - Never a Dull Day !!!

You think of a New Community without any Social Infrastructure, raised from nowhere in the last 10 years or so ago to now, thanks to the resillience of its residents boast so many local activities.

Thanks to Sovereign Harbour Residents Association - SHRA who established early on a powerful media to keep all the residents informed through the bi-monthly publication Waterline which is dropped in every home in the Harbour and the latest strong voice of SHRA Website www.shra.co.uk a well managed Web-media to keep all the residents well informed up to date.

Over the last few years many social groups were formed.

to mention but few...

Sovereign Harbour Social Club. Members meet every Wed. at 10am at Seamor Wine Bar at the Waterfront.

The Harbour Women Institute meet every 2nd Monday of the month at the Yacht Club.

Sovereign Harbour Art Group with weekly Art Classes.

Sovereign Harbour Digital Camera Club meet every Tuesday evening.

Sovereign Harbour Rotary Club meet every Tuesday Evening at 7pm at Simply Italian Restaurant.

Sovereign Harbour Bridge Club meet twice a week in the Harbour.

Harbour Friends meet every Sunday evening at the Yacht Club.

and the latest addition is the formation of The Harbour Community Association with its own activities program located at present time at the Haven School every Friday Evening.

You can see by now, Sovereign Harbour, with all its problems, have a very active social life.

As the say goes - Never a Dull Day !!!

Sovereign Harbour life

Sovereign Harbour Life - A great Place to live

Nearly eight years ago, me and my wife, by chance, came to know of Sovereign Harbour.

We were on cruise when sitting next to my wife round the swimming pool, was this lady from Eastbourne chatting about how nice to be living in this part of the world.

On our return, we decided to drive down from London for the day and have a look ourselves.

On reaching the outskirts of Eastbourne, we noticed a sign which say Sovereign Harbour.

Out of curiosity we drove in that direction and arrived, then at ASDA Store to our right then we saw another sign which direct us to the North Harbour which is the beginning of Pacific Drive.

It was a great Building Sites everywhere with few buildings completed round the North Marina.

Where now is full up with estates next to the beach they was no buildings at all.

Then, we turned back and entered the Car Park of Sovereign Harbour proper where the North Bridge ( we have three ), devide the North Marina from the Central Marina.

We walked into Sovereign Harbour Waterfront - It has not changed since then and we had lunch at the Harbour Harvester, thinking what a nice place it was.

My wife misconception about Eastbourne was - This is a place for Oldies, a waiting transit for life ends.

Her thought couldn't be more to the point when we drove along Eastbourne Seafront and saw all those people in wheelchairs and crutches.

Then we stop by the railway station and had a look in the shop window of an estate agent who was about to lock up the front door. He asked us can I interested in anything. We told him about Sovereign Harbour. He told us that he received the same morning a New instruction to sell a just finished property which the client baught for his daughter attending local University but his daughter did not want to live in Sovereign Harbour.

The next Sunday, we made an arrangement to see the property and within one month - we completed the deal and moved in.

Since then - life was great.

We made New Friends and our fear that all our neighbours are old Old - was not true.

Younger and younger couples have moved into the harbour.

You see a lot of young mums rolling prams and buggies.

You see a lot of young boys and girls going to schools located outside the Harbour.

we do have the young retired professionals Ladies and Gents but you see nothing like the age group you see around in Eastbourne.

As a Seaside Resort, we do have a lot of property owners having Sovereign Harbour as a second home.

Time in the past, we saw a lot of rented accomodation allocated to Council Tenants - this braught with it, undesired crowd. However, and I am glad to testify, many of those properties are sold to owners occupiers and the crime rate went considerably down.

If you are looking for a place by the Sea, come and join our Community.

Welcome to Sovereign Harbour.
